The Department of Neurology at Northwell Health is seeking an accomplished and visionary Stroke or Neurointerventional Neurologist to serve as Stroke Medical Director in Westchester, NY. - 11 Primary Stroke Centers
- 2 Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Centers
Our multidisciplinary stroke teams include physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, technicians, and dedicated support staff who work collaboratively to deliver exceptional patient-centered care. Northwell also maintains a strong commitment to stroke education and training, partnering closely with EMS providers to improve rapid stroke recognition treatment and outcomes.
Phelps Hospital proudly operates a designated Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center, featuring a brand new biplane. Building on this advanced capability, we are projected to establish a new Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center in Northern Westchester over the next 18-24 months, which is also proceeding towards building its own biplane, significantly enhancing regional access to critical interventions.

About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Chair of Neurology, the Stroke Medical Director will lead the strategic, clinical, operational, and academic direction of the stroke program across the Westchester market.
As a key member of the hospital leadership team, responsibilities include:
- Lead the Stroke Program Team and participate in Neurology Service Line meetings
- Serve as a liaison between administration and the stroke team, regularly reporting to Executive and Health System leadership
- Identify opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction and quality of care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services
- Monitor quality data and lead process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality standards
- Collaborate with service-line leadership to expand and implement best practices in stroke care
- Oversee physician recruitment, mentorship, and supervision
- Drive program development, strategic planning, and process improvement initiatives
- Manage clinical, quality, operational, and financial performance
- For Neurointerventional Neurologists considering this role, clinical call responsibilities are collaboratively shared with other Neurointerventionalists.
Candidate Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will possess:
- M.D. Degree from an accredited institution (ACGME or foreign program that is similarly appropriately accredited)
- Completion of Neurology residency and Stroke/Vascular or Neurointerventional fellowship
- Must be Board Certified
- Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as a physician in the State of New York
- Minimum of 5 years of experience demonstrating exceptional leadership skills
